Can Invisalign® Correct My Smile?

Just a generation ago, the journey to straighter teeth started with a railroad track: a not-very-attractive, and sometimes terribly painful, metal railroad track In your mouth.

Then along came Invisalign®, and the world of orthodontics was transformed. Your journey to more beautiful teeth now started with… more beautiful teeth. Free of metal brackets and wires. Free of bleeding cheeks and tongues.

Invisalign uses a series of comfortable clear plastic aligner trays that gently and gradually nudge your teeth into more functional and attractive positions. Since its advent, Invisalign has evolved to handle many complex orthodontic issues.

At CaliDental Lompoc in Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo, Bakersfield and Lompoc, California, our expert dentists offer Invisalign to correct a wide range of smile problems. Here are a few.

“Bucked teeth” are really just an overbite. When you have an overbite, your top arch of teeth extends too far in front of your lower arch. Invisalign gently shifts the angle of your top teeth so that your bite aligns correctly.

An underbite occurs when your lower teeth are positioned in front of your top arch of teeth when your jaw is shut. Severe underbite often requires surgery. Invisalign can correct mild-to-moderate cases of underbite. We may recommend SmartForce™ attachments, which are clear brackets that put extra pressure on your teeth to move.

A crossbite happens when some of the teeth in your upper and lower arches don’t line up properly. For instance, some of your lower teeth are in front of your upper teeth. Invisalign can help to shift your teeth so that your bite lines up the way it should.

Open bite

When you bite down, if you can still see a space between your top and bottom teeth when you bite down, then you have an open bite. Fortunately, many cases of open bite are treatable with Invisalign. You may need SmartForce attachments, too.

Crowded teeth

If your teeth are crowded along your top or bottom arch, they push each other out of alignment. Crowded teeth can create areas of tooth overlap that are difficult to clean, increasing your risk for cavities. With Invisalign, we respace the teeth in your mouth, straightening them and evenly distributing them along your arch.

Gapped teeth

Too much space in parts of your mouth creates gaps between your teeth, which vastly increases the surface area of your teeth that could be exposed to bacteria and cavities.. Invisalign gently shifts your teeth to close any gaps, giving you a full, even smile.

Crooked teeth

As Invisalign moves your teeth, it straightens them, so you get a perfectly aligned grin. We can even untwist twisted teeth, or even out the line on the bottom of your teeth to make it look more uniform.

How Invisalign works

After your custom fitting session, you get a series of clear plastic aligners. You wear one set for at least 20 hours a day, swapping each one out for the next aligner in your series after one to two weeks. As you wear each aligner, Invisalign moves your teeth closer to their ideal position
