Meet Richard Schechtman, DDS

Dr. Schechtman is a board-certified orthodontist at our San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria practices, with over 30 years of experience of creating beautiful smiles for his patients. Dr. Schechtman and his wife have recently relocated to California from New York.

Dr. Schechtman, a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, founded one of New York’s most successful private orthodontic practices utilizing the most advanced technologies to serve his pediatric and adult patients. He earned his certificate in orthodontics at Columbia University and his doctorate in dental surgery (D.D.S.) at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Schechtman was also a clinical instructor at the orthodontic department at Columbia University, publishes in prestigious orthodontic journals, and is a contributor to The Huffington Post on orthodontic health and best practices. Dr. Schechtman serves as a consultant to a global healthcare company providing training to propel practices toward excellence in orthodontic care and troubleshooting complex orthodontic cases

In his free time, Dr. Schechtman enjoys exercise, biking, and is an avid keyboard player who plays with rock bands in New York and Los Angeles.
